Founded by Alexander Nizhniy in 2001
Alexander Nizhniy founded Green Fiddle over a decade ago. Since 2001, Green Fiddle has been a hub for building, trading and restoring quality violins for performers around the world. Alexander Nizhniy is a violin maestro, a violin maker and a violin master: he has built and manages an award-winning team of four shop specialists and two engineers who work collaboratively to not only fabricate violins of the highest caliber but also experiment with and invent new manufacturing materials that are sustainable, recyclable, non-abrasive and ecologically friendly. This is a unique, modern approach to the art of making legacy string instruments while caring about our planet – violins that are stronger, less expensive, and perform more consistently as they respond less to changes in humidity and temperature. This is why Green Fiddle violins are not only good violins, but also green violins.Green Fiddle Is Quality by Principle
The Green Fiddle team works to address the needs of violinists in the United States and abroad who demand only the highest quality from their custom violins and other string instruments: Alexander Nizhniy and his team love what they do, and they are good at their trade. Their violins, cellos and basses have been played by leading maestros from Seattle to Los Angeles, to Denver, to Phoenix, to Miami, to New York, to Boston, as well as by international violinists from London to Amsterdam, to Sydney, to Tokyo to Beijing.
Alexander Nizhniy: Custom Violins of World Class
Green Fiddle offers two product lines of full-size violins – acoustic and electric. To please our youngest clients, we manufacture custom acoustic instruments starting from reduced 1/8 standard size and electric violins starting from 1/2 size. In other words, Alexander Nizhniy makes instruments that cater to the needs of virtually every violinist in the world – both professional and amateur.
History: From Maestro to Green Fiddle and Beyond
Alexander Nizhniy has been playing and working with violins since his childhood. He was born in Eastern Europe into a family of amateur musicians, who enabled him to study music since the age of five. He first learned to play piano and started taking violin lessons at the age of eight to follow in the footsteps of his older brother. By the age of 11, Alexander Nizhniy mastered vibrato and build a repertoire of over 30 concertos – from Viotti to to Prokofiev, to Liszt. When he turned 12, his family came to the United States, and he continued learning and performing professionally ever since. Alexander Nizhniy has played for the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, for Dallas Symphony Orchestra, for Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, and for Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. Finally, in 2001, at the age of 31, Alexander Nizhniy decided to dedicate his music career to making violins, which is when Green Fiddle was born. Alexander is not only an acclaimed violinist and violin maker, but also a world music aficionado, connoisseur of advanced materials technologies and a civil rights activist.
